The Mid Year Exams is here again…

April 27, 2011

This time of the year brings with it many anxieties amongst students and their parents.

Tests and examinations can be quite a terrifying time for kids.  One doesn’t get used to taking exams.  And our children worry about the grades they will get or what will happen if they do not do well or if mommy and daddy will be happy with their grades … lots of questions can swirl around in their minds.  We parents are not excluded from this worry fever too.  Even as the kids fret, we too worry about the grades they will be bringing home.

But our worry and anxiety will only add on to the already anxious child.  Our worry and anxiety may be creating negative narratives for our child.

(If you are not sure what are narratives and what are the impact of a negative narratives, please do look up our post Coins in the Longkang & Narratives. Here, you will learn more about the impact of negative narratives on our children.)

As we have learnt from all our previous sessions at Heart2Heart, understanding our child and building relationship with our child is more important than all the grades.

From Conversation Peace Recap we learnt how our words can impact our children and wound them.  More so during this stressful time of exams – what kind of words will we be saying to our children?

Our children need to hear encouragement from us during this time.  They need to be affirmed as a person not on what they do.  Indeed, each of them is uniquely made, with a set of special gift and talent each.  Each of them is  Precious in His Sight

Our older posts also have Notes of Encouragement & Encouragement During Time of Exams that you can write to encourage our child during this time of exams.

We also included prayers for our children during the examination period : Where Does My Help Come From? & Lifting Our Children to Him in Prayer

And A Prayer for Examination for them to pray through their time of revision and exams.

May the next two weeks be a time when our bonds with our child grows even stronger.  And may each of them know how special and beautiful they are.  And may they come to know Jesus to be real during this time.
